502 Raw Water Pump Switch?
 

I have a raw water cooled 1996 stock 502 with the orginal two piece raw water pump impeller housing, the impeller surround piece and the separate backing piece the hoses hook to. Can I switch to the one piece impeller housing/back piece? It all works fine now, just want to know if I can switch to the new style housing when needed. Thanks.

yes you can, I prefer the metal housings as I boat in a sandy area and the plastic ones don't last.

I changed mine from the two piece to new one piece style without any issues. Mercury parts bulletin No. 96-8 states that the replacement body (P/N 47-71774A40) for the two piece pump is no longer available. I used P/N 46-807151A14 for the replacement. Hopes this helps.

Like mentioned above hunt up one of the old style bronze pumps they last forever, thats probably why Merc discontinued them.

yes you can, the merc kit comes with everthing that you need,


as stated before the brass houseing lastes longer as long as you dont suck sand, but the plastic housing much cheaper
