Blocking exhaust passage in drive housing...

WHat would the negative effects be of this on a through hull exhaust set up? When a block off plate is installed instead of y- pipes and the exhaust bellows is still in place , is this not the same thing as just capping the exhaust port on the front of the drive where the bellows would connect. ***Note I am not trying to seal off the gimbal port in any way***. Is it bad to eliminate the air source out of the prop hub, will this create too much vacuum in the hub pulling gear lube out.....Does any of this make any sense?

Any negative efects?

I spoke with a pretty good drive guru and he said do it...wont hurt a thing. what do you think ? any experience with this?

I did this on a friends twin Donzi, no obvious negative effect. Do keep an eye on the block off plates, I have seen them corrode and leak after a few years of Salt water.

Did you block off the exhaust opening on the drive as well? thus keeping any air from reaching the prop in any shape from the hub passage ?

SO no adverse effects with pulling a vacuum in the housing and pulling gear oil out .....good deal.

Part of a good drive service is a pressure and vacuum test. If you do lose fluid it wont be because of the exhaust routing. But because of bad seals.
