Torque figures for 496HO

Does anyone know what the torque figures are for a 496HO? Or where I might be able to find it?

The 496HO -425hp engine will make about 465ft/lbs of torque at 3800 rpms.

You can find HP and torque curves for the 496 and 496 HO below.

Note: These are GM's numbers not Merc's, so I don't know how much they differ.

Re: Torque figures for 496HO

The difference between a Mag and an HO is a different GM camshaft and a slight difference in the ECM program which I estimate costs Merc about 25 dollars more, but they sell the HO packages for $4000 more than the Mag. Makes you wonder "who's your buddy here! Just some interesting facts. Buy Brunswick stock, they are knocking down profit like an oil company!

You know Ray, given all that I bet a guy could make a business out of hot rodding 496Mags and give the customer a lot more HP for their $4k...or maybe that's already been done.... :drink:

Ray thanks for the info .I saw the peek #'s are higher. I guess the lower hp motor would be better for the big crusiers etc.

So its just the cam and program? Thats a easy up grade ,Who doing the computers???

Re: Torque figures for 496HO

Yep, we do it everyday. for about 6K over a base 496mag plus an ECM upgrade to HO specs you've got a 525+HP 496. Add headers, upgraded fuel system, and our forged bottom end and for about 14K w/o headers 17-18K w/headers above a 496Mag you've got a 600+HP 496. Seems like there is already quite a few boaters who have turned these little tweaks already to their joy! Heck, feeling really adventerous, drop in our new 600cu.in. HO750 and see what 765HP of natuarlly asspirated torque will do to your water rocket! We be da 496 guys!!
