Ext. box installation
 

I am going to be installing an Imco extension box and Bravo XR in place of the original HP Bravo transom ass. Also at this time I will be installing a Hydraulic Helm. Having not been through this process before, any pointers would be greatly appreciated. A couple of questions come to mind :

How do I get the transom ass. off without damaging the gelcoat?

What is the name of the sealer I should use on the install and where do I get it?

The transom assembly uses a type of o ring
to seal it

The one's I've removed came right off easy,
very little, if any, sealer was used.

You shouldn't have to worry about damaging
the gel coat.

I'm not shure if IMCO uses that type of o ring
on their box ( to the transom)......you may want to call them.

The transom assembly is going to mount to the
box just like it did to the original transom, the
o ring on the transom assy will seal it.

The Imco box doesn´t use a sealing ring like the Mercury transom. Imco advises the use of a sealant - can´t remember which one but youi can download the info from their website. I´m just doing the same conversion, box with 3" lift, full hydraulic with tilt helm and everything on a 25 Outlaw. The kit arrived this morning, together with the 525 and XR package. Lots to do.............

As an extra precaustion when I put my new shield on I put a small neat bead of black 5200 all the way arourd the outside edge, I did this due to finding the original shield corroded pretty bad but not visable from the outside. The oring still had a good seal even after 20 years but was due to let go plus I did not like the idea of the housing rotting.

Thanks for the info guys. The unit I am installing already has the XR mounted on the ext. box.(It's a take-off, from a guy that is installing a surface drive) I am still a week or so away from starting the installation, but I will be interested in hearing how your project goes Wild Card O9.
