dry sump #6 question

how do you tell if a number 6 is a dry sump drive or wet. a friend purchased a boat with 6's and was told they were dry sumps. is there a reservoir? some kind of pump or lines? i really didn't see anything on the transom assembly but than again i am not terribly familiar with the setup. just curious at this point

Re: dry sump #6 question

Look under the cavitation plate on the inner side if they are spinning in. There is a screw to check the level.
If you drop the lower from the upper there will be a spray bar
between the two gears.

Taking for granted they are the early style.

Re: dry sump #6 question

Yes, everything is internal. If you look at the right side of the anti-ventilation plate about 2" back from the front there should be a vent plug. This will be your full level. If there is not one on the right side fwd, most likely its a wet sump.
