can anyone tell me the differences? oil pan? distributor? Heads.....

There are lots of differences too numerous to type in here. But if you can get a copy of Dennis Moore's "BIG-BLOCK CHEVY Marine Performance" book it will tell you everything you need to know in that area, and more. --- Jer

There are many ways to tell the difference, but the easy way to tell immediately is that the Gen IV has a fuel pump boss on the right front of the block. The easy look between Gen V and Gen VI is that the timing cover for Gen VI is cast and the Gen V is stamped steel.
