Re: KPM Pump?

Dick,

As I recall, you bought a rebuild kit. There are no issues with them.

HI Eric;

I have just sent you an email; and I apologise for the time its taken but we were working with some very tight spaces. We originally made you a kpm slim line until we realised that you would not be able to feed from the back.

So we had to rethink.
1) we shortened the bracket by 2 inches to give you extra swing.

2) because the pully clashed which is bigger than the pump we then had to make a special 4 inch pully.

3) because the pulley is smaller the pump will pump faster so we had to change the porting to give you the same flow.

4) it all then had to be tested. Since If we make one mistake the result is generally ruthless.

The pump we have made you is a pure one off .

As` with all pumps from 2006 they are now serial numbered and made to the same specification as the KPM MIL Spec pumps.

We have all learnt in the last few years , and if we have a problem then it is due to specification or fitting. As a result we are posting on our web site comprehensive information to help customers choose the ideal product. We have also made the designs more fool proof since . In your instance we should have recommened a rebuild kit or a pedastle mounted pump . And you are more than welcome to have your pumps replaced for these options.

Fred at trick has been great and on the whole we have good experiences. But together we try and solve problem rather than walk away from them. As we all know best intentions always appear to be the opposite.

I will call you
Jules

PS ; we have now been working with many Defence estabilshments and customers and we have come across a state that we call Harmonic back off. This is were you come of the plane , the pump with the engine backs off , but the water from the pick up Hits the pump like a brick wall. Under certain circumstances we found that this could wind a nut from the end of a pump shaft and in the worst condition buckle the pulley.Most events appear to occure with big water pickups about 1 1/4" diameter . By speaking to customers this is common across a wide range of makes of pump. KPM have now designed out this problem , and also strongly suggested that a pressure relief valve is used at all times , which will stop the condition. Gary at GT Performance has been using KPM pumps for 4 years in conjunction with Pressure relief valves and strainers and has never had an issue , since he is using the complete system . We know that this is not always possible for everyone

If you own a KPM Pump that is subject to these conditions , we will happily upgrade your pump no matter how old it is. Please contact us to disscuss your requirements.

PPS : KPM are now producing water system schematics to guide customers into the best practice in water system design.
