Help. Another 496 not drawing water
I am quickly losing faith in the dealer working on my boat. Its a 2002 Baja with a 496 ho. Last winter was the first time I had them winterize the boat. They pull it out in the spring, it won't draw any water. They replace the impellor. I figure, well it was probably about time anyway. 195 hours. The first time I try taking the boat out, it won't draw any water. They check it, say there was an air lock in the system not letting the pump prime, they crack the drain plug, get the system pumping, and put the boat away. Problem solved. Not. I try the following week to take the boat for a run, put it in the water, no water going through the manifolds. One of the techs cracks the drain plug, the system starts pumping. I use the boat all day, no problems. The boat is racked stored by the way. It seems to lose its prime everytime the boat gets pulled out of the water. Now they say the air pump is bad causing the problem. Anyone else experience this, or have experience here? Any reply would be appreciated.

They have your chain stretched! Get some recomendations to find a new wrench.

The exact part they are replacing is the air actuator. Real part. At least according to my service manual there are two of them in the system.
I guess I'm glad to see no one else has had this problem. |
Re: Help. Another 496 not drawing water
Are they doing muffler bearings too??? If I were you check & make sure that the air purge valve has been released. If not I may not want to pump right. The 496's take a little while to fill but I havent had to "bleed" one to get it to flow water..
You should only have to pump air into it when you want to drain the cooling system's raw side. Thats when you use the little blue air pump on the little schrader valve. When all the to be able to stay in the engine you pull up slightly on the little valve with ring on it to purge the air out of it.. You shouldnt have to do it repetatively though.. :) :) Jamie / Lakeisde |
