1600 - 1800 rpm idle

Ok I removed a head to get pressure checked . No problems. Reinstalled, timed engine at 28 degrees , idles like crazy. Tripple checked distributor . dead on the money.idle screws backed all the way out . No linkage pulling on carbs.Sounds great, just idles its as- off.It wont come down.No vacumm leaks are detected.( 572 blowers usually idled at 1000 rpms )Distributors are locked out.MSD .How much vacuum leak can raise idle this much ?. I sprayed around everything with wd 40 no change. Any ideas? Could a spring be stuck in tthe distributor ? Im stumped . Sounds very strong . When I brought timing down from abt 34 to 28 engine temp went down ? Could high idle have anything to do with lifter adjustment ?To tight ? Engine is idleing above 1600 rpms....

Just had a brain fart, seams I recall my fuel may have jumped up to almost 10 psi . What could cause pressure to rise. ? Mechanical fuel pump .Im graspping at straws !!! I believe it was running at 5 or 6 psi before. We did have a big backfire when timing was incorrect. Any ideas??/

check the float levels, if they are off, pull the bowl and check the float, needle and seat. Sounds like the carb is flooding. Pull the flame arestor off and look down the carb while it's running. You shouldn't see any gas running into the throttle plates. Just a thought.

Never took carbs off blower?
doesnt matter, take off the flame arrestors and see whats going on. a feww taps with a rubber hammer should free them. aslo check the secondary butterflies might not be closing all the way which will allow it to pull fuel from the secondaries.

Thanks Stan, I checked the butterflys they are shut. A stuck float could be it.The blowers do get tipped around alot during removal and installation.Im almost there Stan .If I dont make it I might have to rent a room !!!!! Haha.Starts right up and goes to 15 00- 1800 right away .

Call Joey Griffin and/or take it to him. He'll likely fix while-u-wait.

If it idled fine before Backfire -- Power Valve
Else I would be looking for vacuum leak.

Hard to check when engine idles so high. If you have a leak it is going to cause a lean condition..

Re: 1600 - 1800 rpm idle

I brought my idle screws in all the way and backed them out 1/2 a turn and she idles like a champ . 1000 rpm .Let me tell you something funny. I pulled the bowls to check the power valves. Dripped some gas along side the blower and it set on the edge of the blower gasket . When I fired up the engine after reassembly the gas bubbled and I found my vacuum leak.Amazing isnt it.The poker run is Saturday and im ready to go. Thanks for everyones input the last 5 weeks.
