Bravo XR running in reverse
 

One of my props turns 200 rpm's more than the other. I tried switching the props on my Bravo XR outdrives and run them in reverse for a test. When I got to 3,000 rpm's my warning lights came on for both motors. I am running a 35' Fountain with twin 525's EFI motors. Is this warning because I am running in reverse and the electronics doesn't realize I have reversed the props? If so, do I have to change the shifters or remove the wires connected to the shifters under the dash? I would like to determine if I need a prop adjustment or do I have one motor turning more rpm's than the other or do I have a tach problem or even an outdrive problem. Thanks in advance for your help.

I had the same prop issue with one turning 200 rpm's more than the other. I switched the props and ran the boat in reverse without a problem. No warnings. The test went great as the rpm difference followed the props. My boat is a 1998 Fountain 32' Fever with 502/415 Mags and Bravo I drives. Maybe the newer models have more warnings built in the electronic system.

It is hard to believe with over 100 people viewing this thread that no one else has tried switching props on Merc 525's with Bravo XR drives and run it in reverse.

My guess would be that ,in reverse, your shift position switch on one of the motors is not fully depressed. This is telling the PCM that the drive is still in neutral and will not allow the engine to go above 3000 rpm (this also sets the alarm off). We wire both warning lights together. Check both of the shift position switches (where both shift cables connect at the motor).
