Re: Bad fuel 10% ethanol?
How did they determine it was bad fuel?
Thanks, Jeff |
Re: Bad fuel 10% ethanol?
We have been using 10% fuel here in Michigan for several years now. I run my tanks down to 1/4 or less in the fall. In spring I fill up with good high octane fuel. So far no problems.

Not trying to hijack... but on this subject...
if I put her away with half of a 120 gallon tank of 89. Should I stick 20 gallons of 93 in there to bring the average up? Sorry about your engine Jeff. |

Re: Bad fuel 10% ethanol?
been stored since September.
Min octane is 89 |
Re: Bad fuel 10% ethanol?
Your octane is probably down to about 85. You will need mix a 120 gallons of 93 with it to get it back up to 89.
Its all math 120gal x 85= 10200 120gal x 93= 11160 10200 + 11160= 21360 21360/240gal = 89 |
Re: Bad fuel 10% ethanol?
What would you guys recomend to do with the gas? I have a 60 gallon tank with about 40 gallons of 5 month old E10 fuel. I have an electric fuel pump and I am sure I have cycled all of fuel through the separator. If I empty my filter and check for water can I use octain boost and 20 gallons of fresh fuel to get it back up to speed. Again I do not even know if the fuel is bad. But everyone seems to think E10 is only good for 30 to 60 day. If I need to ditch the fuel what do I do with it?
Thanks, Jeff |

Thanks, Jeff Use the electric pump and move it to red jugs (6gal) if you have them. Man ... with 40 gals and a Holley Blue (110gph) you should be done in < 20mins. and not that much fuel to be bothered with. Mine took a while longer and more $$$ to replace. It may not have caused the problem, but its best to just eliminate the possibility entirely and be done with it! ;) Next year I'm leaving my tanks dry!!! |
Re: Bad fuel 10% ethanol?
I called a friend that works at a local fuel supplier. He recomended to do the same thing and blend the old fuel with the new. I don't know if fuel is the problem but I am not taking any chances. The truck and car only need 87 so if a mix the 5 gallons of old fuel with 15 gallons of 93 it sounds like that may work. I will tell everyone I know for now on store your tanks empty and fill up in the spring.
