This is gonna get you 1000 responses :drink: All different too

Synthetic Oil. I use Amsoil series 2000 20-50. Mobile 1 15-50 is also good.

Filters. I use Fram HP-4. Wix Racing are excellent too.

never use systhetic oil in a new motor, wont allow rings to seat, run merc 25 40 or a straight weight SAE 30 or 40

never run a fram filter period... use wix or merc ( merc filters are made by wix ) check flow rates and micron ratings

as for plugs use ac delco or ngk do not do not run champion plugs

no opinions here facts only, and 25 yrs of playing with cans of worms.......... sorry I mean boats

I wasn't telling him what oil to run in a new motor, just what oil to run overall.

There is a major difference between a Fram HP filter and regular Frams. I've run them in everything from 8500 RPM small blocks to big HP BB's with no problem.

I agree on No Champions. I run AC's.

I told Hydrolift that he would get some interesting responses to an oil/oil filter question :D :drink:

hey duke,

no need to defend....
wasnt trying to put down what you were saying, opinion are kinda like ass holes everyone has one.........and thats my opinion

been doing this a loooong time fram sucks in a bind Ive been known to use them and keep my mouth shut.....

but always try to use wix or merc

I just try to do the best for my customers because most dont know either way and it pisses me off that other shops play on that

There is a reason FRAM is a four letter word. All the four letter words are taken. They could not call them Rocket, as Rocket Trailers already have that market cornered.

Wix/Napa Racing 1061R is the best filter that is easily store bought.
K&N and the Mercury Filters are about an equal second.

Mobil1 15w50 is all I put in my (old) HP500EFI and my current 496s.

NGK (BPR8ES part number ????, that was from memory) is the plug of choice and the recommeded plug in the Mercury manual. They did change recommended plugs from AC Delco to NGK.
