Drive spacer install question
 

There are O rings between the upper and lower housing. The spacer does not have any O rings between it and the upper housing, only the bottom.

Is this right? I have an XR drive.

I justr did this ....IMCO spacer on an IMCO shorty. The grooves in the spacer go up to mate with o-rings to the upper housing . the bottom of the spacer has no machining grooves and mates with the o-rings in the lower unit portion of the drive. Does any of this make sense?


Make the spacer mate up just like the lower would mate up with the upper.

Yes, it makes sense. I put it on upside down. I did not think the non-gooved would facing down would flatten the O ring for a tight seal. But thinking about it the grooves on the lower are big enough for expansion.

My drive was set up 1.5" higher than from Superboat. So I put a 1.5" spacer on. I just can't seem to get the boat "loose" at speed. feels like I'm towing a skiier! I trim it way up, then it is too loose, or I lose bite. Don't know if you noticed but I am throwing a small rooster tail. I don't think I am getting enough leverage to lift the boat. In rough water, when the boat comes out and the drive stays in the water the boat really lurches forward.

Do you think I'm heading in the right direction??

This subject has been beaten to death over on the Superboat forum. From reading all the posts from Jcap, Krackmeup, and others, YES, absolutely the spacer will help.

I believe that the "standard x dim" has the prop shaft 3-1/2 to 4" below the bottom on the Y2K. Jcap had his best results with a 2" spacer and Krack has had good results running with a 1" spacer.

My boat is quite different being that it is only a 24' and does not have the notch, but the prop shaft is 5" below. I believe the newer 24s with the step and semi-pad are set even deeper; Dave M. measured his at like 6-1/2" below. The slip numbers Dave and I see are a lot better than the 30s. Is it because the prop is deeper??? I'm sure that is part of it...
