Outdrive Maintenance?

Outdrive Maintenance?

Ok fellas (and ladies), Now that I have pulled my outdrive for the first time in preparation for placing and aligning my new 502. What should I do to accomplish responsible maintenance? Do I need to replace that rubber gasket for the cold water pickup(Where I recently found pieces of my detonated impeller)? What about those little O rings on the drive shaft? Do I need to replace those? I plan to grease the U joint and drive shaft before I bolt her all back up…. What kind I grease should I use?

Post up your maintenance procedures when your pull your outdrive!!

drive shaft...... merc spine grease is reconended but any good marine grade will do

ujoints.... I use merc 2-4-c but again any good marine grade grease will do

it is recomended to replace the o rings including the water pick up o ring (yes I know its not round but they still call it an O-ring) when servicing the drive but not always nessisary

For the u-joints, why use 2-4-c over the gimbal & ujoint grease? Not started anything, just curious on your opinion.
Thanks,
Jr.

2-4-C is an all around general purpose grease that has teflon and thats what I keep in my grease gun if I carried all the spec purpose greases id have to carry about 20 grease guns with me 2-4-c is a recomended grease for ujoints and gimbel brg along with trailer bearings ect

Carring 20 grease guns is alot,
All you need are 2
"2-4-c" and "gimbal and u joint grease"
What do you think about the hole idea of not using teflon base lubricants with roller bearings?
Cant forget a tube of special 101, gotta love that stuff.
