Any problems with Lightening Headers?
Do lightening headers have a problem ingesting water into the engine? Not a freak thing, but a regular occuring problem. Thanks.

Mine and Cory's did okay.

Re: Any problems with Lightening Headers?
Guess it depends. They are no different from any other header. You can vary the point the water is dumped into the exhaust and how much. It also depends on your cam/displacement.

Re: Any problems with Lightening Headers?
I had a set on a jet boat for several years. Had a pretty good cam. Never had a problem.

Re: Any problems with Lightening Headers?
If you talk to Jahn or John (what ever his name is)at lightning he will tell you the normal wet lightning headers will revert water as easy as stock manifolds. My 502 and 540 were fine with them on with a 600 lift hyd roller w 228/236 at .050 at 700 rpm's idle with merlin iron heads,my new 540 with 600 lift hyd roller w/236/240 at .050 and afr cnc heads would STALL at idle from terrible water reversion with them.So there is a point depending on cam and cyl heads where they will not work unless you "dry"them up by adding water further back,Smitty

Re: Any problems with Lightening Headers?
Had lightnings on a 89 Regal Velocity 454 mag and on my 98 Velocity with a 502mag. No problems and better performance.

Re: Any problems with Lightening Headers?
Great product and cannot be beat for the price. Jan is easy to work with and will build to suit if required. We've put them on dozens of boats with different configurations and had NO problems to date. In fact, we have them on our own boat.

The cam is the Comp "Extreme Marine" cam kit to retro fit a Gen V, it is a mild hydraulic roller. 540 lift, 260 duration... nothing extreme at all... |
Re: Any problems with Lightening Headers?
We installed them before with no problems. We also have them on Blown jets with no issues. They look & work great Just watch the cam size & dump the water late in the exhaust if you are going big on cam. Jamie / Lakeside :)
