power steering

Was wondering if anyone has tried this.
Last year when I was having motor problems I lost the engine that controls my power steering, It was not fun getting back.
Is there anyway to add a second power steering unit off the other motor, so both motors run a power steering pump. Will this ruin by steering unit.

good question - I was looking to do the same or fabricate an extra pulley/belt in case I needed to drive the pump by my port motor. Follow up question - can a power steering pump work turning in both directions.

It would be emergency get home only.

I have worked on this stuff for many years and have often thought of doing a dual setup, there should be no reason not to the pressure is controlled within the pump so you could not over pressurize the system. The hot setup would be to have a valve block to be able to switch either pump into the system while allowing the unused pump to free wheel IE just recirculate the oil through its cooler.

Caveman did you get the new motor together yet. I saw it at Russ J.'s over the winter. Don is suppose to come down and put on the new carb.'s this weekend if it doesn't rain again. Maybe for once I'll get in the water before July. Let me know if you think is will hurt the pumps or steering cylinder if I "Y" in a second pump I'm not a mechanic but I figure they have a pressure valve built into them and don't think it will hurt anything.

Yup, you guys are on the right path. Here is what you will need plus an extra pump and hoses.
