Merc. Racing Blue Paint
I see from earlier posts that the color code for the Mercruiser Racing Blue is dupont b8110a - merc racing blue/PPG 17993.
My local paint shop, that uses PPG, looked it up but could not find any recipe for it :( . Does anybody here know it, and post it or e-mail it to me?? [email protected] Thanks |
Re: Merc. Racing Blue Paint
We have some of the Mercury paint at the shop. When I get there I'll take a look and see if I can find anything on the can.

Re: Merc. Racing Blue Paint
I contacted Mercury and got the following reply: "We do not give out our blue paint code. It is Mercury Policy. If you have any other questions about bla. bla. bla...."
Read some old posts on this :evilb: fabulous :evilb: form and found to paint codes. After some research this this is what I found out, PPG 17993 is so old that they don`t have a formula on record. The dupont b8110a (old stock#) = DPC# 15663 (Color Perm Code AJ935) This color is found on Chevrolet 1981 (paint code 20) and Pontiac 1981 (paint code 7204) the name of the color is BRT BLUE. They could not get me the formula for the dupont but the same color is used on a Hyundai  (color code HD) and they gave me the formula for this (Spies Hecker quality Serie 293) :evilb: . I have not painted yet so if it`s the correct color remains to see. I will not post this until I know if its the right one. If you want to try it, e-mail me, and I will send you the formula. :D If I have got it all wrong PLEAS LET ME KNOW so I could delete this post, hate wrong and misleading information!!! |
Re: Merc. Racing Blue Paint
I went in to the paint store just for the heck of it. Told them the dupont code B8110A & they mixed it right up in Imron. This is what its says on the can:
General Motors code 20 1981 Bright Blue-Effect Sure looks like the right stuff to me. I've got to dig out an old valve cover & double check. |
Re: Merc. Racing Blue Paint
Cig1988: Do you think you could get me the formula? I am located in Europe. This color is for America, I have been in contact with dupont and PPG and they could not help me. Want to compare the color with the Hyundai color that I have the formula for.
