Where to connect water pressure line?
 

'91 27' Fountain, single 502 mag, bravo.

Water pressure line (to gauge) is currently connected to a fitting near the rear of the block, near the bottom.

When i put the boat in this year, it worked fine. Now it's already clogged. I unclogged it, by the time i backed out of the well, idled to the lake, and hit it, it was clogged again. My well is pretty shallow, and the bottom is all nasty silty crap that gets sucked up real easy. And a lot of crap is suspended in the water as well.

I do a lot of boating in shallow water, so this is a common occurance.

Is there someplace else i can connect this line to maintain a good reading?

I just took off the sensor near the thermostat and put in some brass fittings incorporating a "T" fitting which the sensor and water pressure can hook into. Just did both motors, works great and will resist from getting gunked up. Heard some guys tap another hole into the thermo housing.... Good luck!

I tapped into the thermostat housing on the starboard side. There is a plug between the large waterpump hose and the smaller hose. This was on a 95 454 efi motor. Not sure if yours will be the same.

Thanks guys. Will check out today, hopefully buy whatever fittings necessary tomorrow, and get it hooked up.

Using a T on a sensor line is a good idea, i didn't think of that. If there's a plugged hole i can use i will, but i would like to avoid drilling and tapping if possible.

With you getting so much silt and so fast, do you have a problem of the block filling up?

Maybe.

When i unhook the line, though, if i poke in there with something to get the clog out, water drains from the block. So it's not getting "full", but i'm sure there's some silt sitting in the bottom of the water passages.

I went and looked at the thermostat housing yesterday. What thread are those sensors? I measured about 5/8" OD, i'm assuming pipe thread? 3/8" NPT?

There are two sensors (or one sensor and one switch), and only one appears to do anything. There doesn't seem to be any alarm hooked up. What does the other sensor do? I was thinking about just removing the second sensor (the one that doesn't drive the gauge) and replacing it with a fitting leading to the water pressure gauge. Or does the ignition system somehow use this? I can't think of anything else on the boat that would use a temp reading.

The second one is for your temp alarm...I wouldn't remove it.
I drilled and tapped mine right next to the water line coming in from the oil cooler.

No alarm on my boat. The second one will be gone. I turned the ignition on and grounded both of them (one at a time). One made my temp gauge go all the way hot, the other did nothing.

I just want to make sure it's not going to screw with the tune. I know on most modern cars, ignition timing, fuel delivery, etc. is governed by input from just about every sensor on the motor.

I picked up the fittings i need today at lunch. I got a T fitting anyway, but i don't think i'll use it.
