Engine timing Help ?????
How do you set the timing on a 2004 350 MPI .
We had to put a new motor in due to poor winterize job. Put new motor, in set dist. at #1 when we drop it in. Motor runs very smooth till about 1500 rpm then starts cutting out. I guess this timing can't be set like the late 80 GM's by jumpering out A & B terminals to set base timing @ 8* BTDC Do you have to use a DDT ? HELP Please !!!!!!!! If someone has an answer would like to call (217) 474-8520 Paul |
Re: Engine timing Help ?????
Paul,
You don't/can't set the timing on that engine. It is controlled entirely by the ECM. The distributor must be set for proper rotor phasing, but turning the distributor does not change the timing. Dave |
Re: Engine timing Help ?????
Then how do you do that ???? Did I not set the dist right when I dropped it in on TDC #1 & line up #1 on Dist. cap

Re: Engine timing Help ?????
Thats how I did it . right on the 1# pickup of the dist. cap
Is it possible that the computer still has a code in it from when the motor initionally had problems thus keeping the motor from reving up? Do your codes have to be cleared ? It's like it's in Guardian mode or something. Oh yeah I can't remember unplugging anything from the distr. Does anything plug in to the base on that plug shown in the picture. |
