XR stuck in reverse

My port drive is stuck in reverse. happened yesterday while pulling into my dock after a light run. Gear seem a little tight. is this an easy fix? anyway to salvage my weekend of boating?
thanks

Could be a worn shift cable. If the cable cladding breaks between the transom and the drive you may not be able to get it into neutral or forward gear

Could be a welded cone clutch, but propbably just the shift cable. You could swap props and dock using the other drive.....

CAVelocity, what ever the root cause is, swapping the props is a brilliant solution to saving the weekend.
LostinBoston, is the shift control also stuck in reverse or is it just that nothing happens when going into neutral or forward?

The lever seem to go into neutral position, but the drive stays in reverse. Doesnt lock into foward position. Switching props would be great but the boat is currently in the water (no lift) so that might be really tough to do. Its coming out monday.
Thanks for the advice

If the control moves and nothing happens, the shift cable is the prime suspect. If you are lucky it is just an adjustment down on the engine. If it is the cladding you will have to lift the boat to change the cable.
Normally you would be able to shift the props with the boat in the water by putting the drives in trailer position and sit on the swimplatform if you have one. Otherwise sit on the dock or stand in the water.

Good luck
