Who's got heads?

2 Attachment(s)
Wanted:-- new heads available that would be good for my single 540 combo - ready to go - it's the middle of summer.

Just had exhaust port wall failure one my old Merlin 310's #3003's. I found a NOS bare one last year after cracking one, and now the other one had a thin wall that finally broke through. Valves and springs have seen enough abuse. I'm looking for new.

I see someone selling new Merlins ready to go for 2k on this site, but I also want to look at stepping up (in head flow, not necessarily price, but hey). NA 540, Comp Cam roller - 240/244 at 612/612, with 112 lobe sep. Tall deck Merlin Dom. intake with 1050, gil exhaust now, but will probably step up to CMI's soon. I'm in salt water, but will consider hard anod alumn - not sure where the prices are these days. Feel free to PM if you have to, because I WILL buy something this week:)

I have a set of merlins I'm taking off. They need a re-fresh if you want them make me an offer. IMO the merlins have issues with salt water. I have seen water jackets corrode into the exhaust port more than once. Merlin is thrifty on nickel at the foundry. GM has the best nickel content in all but I'm going with dart's with hardened exhaust seats and coated water jackets. You may want to consider that.

Sounds exactly like what mine did --- no, no used merlins, thanks though. Mine have been religiously flushed and still failed. When you say coated water jackets, do mean they are iron and coated or alumn?

Yes, they are Iron Eagle's and the water jackets are coated. I'm going with the 345 cc heads w/the coating and hardened exhaust seats. You can call Dart & speak to a tech. 248-362-1188. Or www.dartheads.com
Better off calling them, they'll never answer your email this time of year.

Hang Time, go to ohio performance.com, they have hard coated afr heads in stock and are clearing all inventory. You can probably get a pair at their cost. They were a big dealer, good prices.

Re: Who's got heads?

There are some AFR's in the advertisers section. I bought Dart Pro 1's this winter but if I could have found some AFR's I would have gotten them in a heartbeat. I just didn't want to wait 4 weeks for delivery. Looks like TP might have some in stock???
