Can you use high temp.....

RTV as a gasket between the exhaust manifold and the riser without a gasket?

I have stainless marine exhaust and don't have new gaskets from the company to go between the manifold and the riser.

Or,, can I buy some gasket material and cut me one to fit and use High temp rtv?

Thanks,
Shawn

I'd call Stainless and ask, any BBC exhaust gasket should work.

I'm talking about the 3 or 4 " round one between the manifold and riser?? Just want to make sure I'm explaining it clearly.

Thanks, :D

OOPs,

Yes buy a sheet of 1/16 gasket material of whatever SM recomends, red rtv on both sides wont hurt.

Just lay the gasket material on the header surface and use the round end of a ball peen hammer to get impressions of the bolt holes. Cut those out and use bolts to center it whilst you get an impression of the exhaust hole.

In my redneck days, (OK, still today :D ) I would use beer or soda cases (paperboard) as gasket stock.

Sounds hillbilly-ish, and it is, but it works pretty darn good.

Mine do not line up 100%. I do use the gasket, but still have to use a LOT of the RED High Temp RTV.

I mechanic showed me that trick and it works great.

Honestly I do not see where you need that thin gasket if you have to use the RTV.

The last time I had my stainless marine manifolds off we just used the orange high temp rtv with no gskts on the risers and tail connections because I didn't have their gaskets anymore either,it will work,Smitty
