To add to 88's comment I have seen some line hone jobs where they have not trued the caps before cutting them for line honing. So the cap sits on the block at a slit angle. This will fail bearings. The pattern on the bearing will have more wear on the bearing in the front or back of it.

I had it Align-honing 'themains' previous to the stroking to 496.. and all was great.
No dought it has something to do with this aftermarket/new crank.
I think I will just wait and shoot the dice and pull the engine at the end of Aug. when I am done boating for anther reason.

1BIGJIM, who's crank? Eagle? Reason I ask is my motor is almost complete at the engine shop and I'm using an Eagle rotating assembly with Dart block. Thanks

Having surgery in Sept. 45 years old and routine physical found early signs of Colon Cancer :( Still hard to believe but lucky they found it before it spread.

It is an Eagle Crank and Rods. It was just not installed, it had work done to it. I have never had an aftermarket crank that was good to go out of the box.

1BIGJIM,

Who is doing your machine work????? Probably only a couple shops around here that I would trust.

Re: Bearing Help. I Have Never Been This Stumped!

Have heard many problems with Eagle 4.25 stroker cranks in 454 blocks. I would recommend a Callies or just build a bigger REAL motor and stop trying to squeeze too much power out of old 1970 454 crap. Rember a 454 is really a stroker to begin with from the factory. It's a 427 (3.76" stroke) with 4" stroke. Sometimes you will see brand new Eagle cranks on E-bay .010 under, (wondering why) why did they not get them right from the get go !
I have a 4.25 stroke crank and many 454 blocks, why did I choose to build a 540 TD ? I could have easily built a 572 for the same price ! I have a 598 too( which is over stroked) ! Why is my own boat still not in the H20 ?
Maybe because I want it to be right and last even if I can't use it right away.....
Build a bigger motor mild and it will make more power and torque, and it will stay together and you will be very happy. BBB

Griff,

I have taken my machine work to Rojam Machine.

Kirk has been doing all my stuff for years.
