Stolen gas......

I think someone stole some gas out of my boat. The problem is I love the old retro gas caps on my '74 Magnum.......and they don't lock.

Anyone have any ideas?

I had the same problem in one of my boats. If you have easy access to the fuel fill hose you could fit a ball valve to it, closing the hose inside the engine room. Another but more expensive way of doing it is to use a electrical valve, that's what I did. Connecting it to the ign. switch and a switch on the dash. But remember if you use an electrical switch that it has to be approved for use with gas.

Stealing gas from a boat has always been a pretty easy crime to pull off. With today's prices, I'm certainly not suprised that the thieves wll be or already increasing their efforts.

I don't have a sure fire solution for you, wish I did, could probagbly sell it at this moment in history.

The ball valve in the fuel hose is probably the easiest and simplest solution, if you make it more difficult for the thieves, make them spend more time trying to steal your fuel then they get nervous and will move on to easier tartgets.

Good Luck in your efforts to protect yourself!

I had mine stolen last week, I am looking at Perko's locking fuel fill. They make one that goes inside the existing filler. I would say now is the time to think about it. The boat next to me at the ramp had 25 gallons and I lost close to 30. Boats are easy targets. Took a while to sink in what happened, but at $3.00+ gallon it is going to happen.

Thats too funny I had two of them sleeping in the house!! Thought about tying to the trailer, but the PETA police would have locked me up.

Ouch. Hope you are spending any extra cash on oil, gas and petro marketing stocks and a locking device for the fuel tank.

Jupp :drink:
And by the way.... if you take the cost of what you pay for a car or marine engine, you can double the price before you can use it. The tax is not nice...
And we are one of the countries pumping up bilions of oil dollars from the North sea....
