I asked my engine builder if he was including an oil thermostat. His reply was there was no need for one. I don't know if this is a tough thing to do, or he honestly thought there shouldn't be any problems.

my temps are 212 cruising, 230 @5500 after a few minutes. temps measured in pan. some guys are using hp500 filter adaptors with a built in thermostat. if you dont want to buy a new cooler with a built in thermo, you can check out hardin marines thermostat. it gets plummed in-line between filter/cooler/block.

Is this an easy process to complete? About how much money? I can't imagine why anyone would want to build an engine without one? Any ideas?

These oil temps are excellent. At 300F oil starts to oxidize at a faster rate. Oil life is basicly halfed when run at temps over 300. 200-250 is great. Oil is tested in the lab at 210. On the low side try to get oil temps ovet 180 to remone condensation. Ken

With your temps in the 220 to 230 range the engine will have several hundred hours of service life. An engine will run with higher temps but as they grow the service life of the engine is reduced.

Will these oil temps mentioned keep any condensation from gathering around the oil fill? I had this problem with a 572 that I kept for 9 years. Never had any problems with the engine, but had this going on from day one.
