You would think rubbing against the outdrive would slow it down quite a bit.

The loud bang I cant explain off the top of my head unless it was the prop slamming against the retaining ring

yes the prop rubbing the drive will cause a rpm loss

Mine rubbed a little too. I was just testing a prop and only went for a 3 mile run. Actually, mine wasn't in the old prop when I looked either. It was on the ground next to where I had set the original prop.

Yours rubbed more and when it did, it probably loosened up some and got out of balance. This would cause the rpm loss.

I would guess the prop was in the hub until you heard the loud bang, that's when it came loose (foward) and started to rub on your lower gear housing. You probably forgot to put the washer in, like GoodT said, the zinc or something would have to be damaged if the washer exploded and came apart there. I guess anything is possible, we're all just speculating at this point.

Well I guess i must have left the phucker off.

I just had the props labbed and had some real bad handling characteristics at high speeds. could this have been the cause?
