Power Steering slop
Anyone ever had a problem with play in the merc power steering on a bravo? I am running cable steering back to the power steering unit with one external ram.
I checked the cable and there is no play, but the power steering unit appears to have a bunch of slop. This happened last time out, went from tight to loose all of a sudden. I must have about an 1/8 of a turn play in the wheel. |
Re: Power Steering slop
The slop is usually where the tillerarm meets the gimbal ring. If you are lucky you can tighten the nuts on the outside and get rid of the slop. If you cant I would recommend going full hydraulic and be done with it

Re: Power Steering slop
It's the cable helm,go on any brand new boat, you can get almost a quarter turn out of any of them.I went from full hydraulic for the last 15 years to driving a cable to actuator and i had ahard time beleiving there was something wrong till i tryed other new boats.
