HP500s Carb build-up

I know this question's has probobly been asked before, BUT how much HP can I make, (Without a blower, too many Manatee zones we have to idle thru! ) out of a pair of HP500 carb motors? I don't want to raise the compression either, so I can contiune to run 87 octane, and also still like to be able to run wet exhaust. I'm thinking I'm going to go with KE headers or IMCO Powerflow Plus. What cam/heads/carb work can be done to get the HP up? I'm hoping for 575-600 HP?
Thanks,
Dean

in the formula owner's thread goto "senator's 353 build up" it seems he did a pretty interesting job. At least it is a good starting point.

I think you should build up those 502's, leave the Hp's alone, and sell them to me. :drink:

A,
Thanks for the heads up, I went and looked @ the thread, and sent the "Senator" and PM. :D He got 700 HP on the dyno!! :D
Yeah baby, this is going to be a cool project! :drink: :drink:

700hp is optimistic. you can build a nice 600hp motor with that setup.

Yeah, I thought 700 HP was pretty high also, I'm awaiting the "Seneator's" PM back! :drink:

600HP tops without a blower.

L,
That's what I'm thinking, about 580-600 is probobly the max, I just want to hear everyone who has done this, their ideas/parts/builder, on how to get to these HP levels!

Did you ask your boys at Express about bumping up the power?

Dean,

First of all 700hp was dry dyno headers and NO accesories (fuel/sea water pump, power steering pump) and it can be done (and was). Secondly, the combo works and has given me close to 630hp net per motor. That is True horsepower proven with speed/ weight and so on....

Combo:
502 cubic inch motor
stock JE pistons
stock rods
stock crank
Crane Cams cam PN#168741 (Copper colored ones ONLY)
Crane Cams roller lifters
Crane Cams 1.7 ratio rockers for the exhaust
Crane Cams 1.8 ratio rockers for the intake
Manley push rods 25870 and 25788
AFR 315cc CNC'd heads
Dart 6200 intake (stock HP500)
Holley 800 CFM double pumper mech. secondaires (stock)
HVH 1" super sucker carb spacer
Crane Cams Ignition Box HI-6M 6000-6462
Crane Cams Ignition Coil LX92 730-0892
CMI Elbow top headers
8" Corsa transom mount mufflers
89 octnane fuel (not really needed)
aprox. 8.25:1 compression

That's pretty much it. If you have any other questions, PM me your phone number and I'll give you a call. I have ALL of the part numbers for EVERYTHING I used during the build and would be more than willing to supply you with them.

BTW...Make sure you have the oil pump screen welded on REAL good!! Ruined my weekend and is currently keeping me off the water!

Dave
