Are Arneson drives...
...a viable option for my boat?
Recently purchased a '96 Wellcraft Excalibur '45 (built by Riviera). It has the 502 MPI / Bravo III combination. Overall, I like the combination of looks/speed/comfort. I've heard (read on the internet) some less than wonderful things abt these out drives. Reliability, corrosion, etc.. So, being a guy who can't leave well enough alone, if the time comes when these must be replaced, I'd consider new technology. My question is with my application, stock 502's, 15000 lbs, would I see much difference in speed, handling and/or economy? Enough to offset the cost difference? Thx |

Ya gotta love this site. :D

Re: Are Arneson drives...
I just wished they had a TRS conversion like the Bravo conversion.
|
Re: Are Arneson drives...
It's the same kit. Basically any I/O will work with our kit.
We've done TRS conversions, talk about a speed increase, Bravo's, OMC and Volvo drive units have been converted over as well. Rik |
Re: Are Arneson drives...
Is there a web site for the trs conversions and some kind of price list.

Re: Are Arneson drives...

Re: Are Arneson drives...
This was a portion of the reply I got...
"...You will gain mid range as well as top end with the Arneson's over the Bravo setup as well as reliability over the Bravo's also. You will not have any issues with docking or driving the boat, nor will there be any rough water concerns with the use of a Surface Drive. The ASD7M's cost $18,500.00 ea. plus mechanical tie bar assembly which cost $1,600.00...." I was happy that they didn't make wild claims abt performance gains, etc. I do think it would be a neat option, but the price seems a little out reach. I'll look at other options as well when (if) the time comes... |
Re: Are Arneson drives...
The cost of the Arneson may seem pricey, but factor in the number of Bravo varients you will go through in a few years and the surface drives are a bargain.

Re: Are Arneson drives...
You can also sell your Bravos to recoup some of the cost.
