Hard lesson's learned
 

This is my first year as a boater, and I think I've done everything wrong a rookie could do and then some. Today's adventure went something like this, forgot the put the drain plug . As I started off approximately 5 mins into the journey my motor failed. Found out what I did or didn’t do and dove in to install the plug. Felt like a Fear Factor challenge.

Anyway, at the end of our day and on my way back I hit a rock and damaged my SS prop. That’s not my big problem or question, what else happened is my skate tore clean off . Do I have to replace the whole lower drive unit or are there any kits worth installing?

Merc sells the fin and have someone weld it on for you.

Better luck next time. Remember if you forget the drain plug, get the boat on plane as you are headed to shore and U won't sink :D

Any local welding shop thats in a town close to water usually is familar with skeg repair/replacement. Around here it runs 85-120 $ and they do it right on the boat. As far as mangling your prop on a rock,If you hit one hard enough makesure you check or have a shop check your prop shaft for runount (bent) so your not chasing a vibration later on,Smitty

Most of the prop repair shops around here can do the skeg repair. A lot of them get torn up for one reason or another. They can also fix some props that you thought were to far gone. We all make mistakes now and then so don't beat yourself up. I would say to slow down and take a deap breath. The water will be there, don't get in a hurry.

Skegs are made to snap off so most energy is not up-rooted thru drive.

Get a new one and no one will know.

Same price here but they like you to split the drive and take them the lower half.
