How Accurate is your GPS Speedo?

Well, I have a Livorsi Monster GPS speedo that is off about 4-5 MPH (slow).

I just bought this unit last November, and it has really drove me crazy trying to find the lost speed in my boat that I actually did not loose!

I have compared it with hand held units, other boats side by side and also ran the boat down the highway behind my truck with the GPS on. Ran the truck to 80 MPH on speedo and hand held GPS and boat GPS speedo showed 75 MPH.

Funny, but a buddy called me this weekend and told me that his Livorsi is off by almost the same amount.

I plan to call them Monday and inquire.

Has anyone ever heard of this or found yours to be wrong?

I had my antenna mounted on the top of the dash first, but have it under the dash now. Same results both ways?

My Livorsi GPS Speedo reads the same as my handheld GPS.

My antenna is UNDER my dash.

Both my Livorsi gauge and the Garmin dash unit read the same.

I never thought about mine being off. I have a Livorsi GPS speedo, with antenna mounted next to windshield, in open sight.

I`ll have to get my Garmin hand-held and compare.

It's a mystery to me. But Steel Outlawed has one that is off almost as much as mine.

I'm going to call them in the morning and see if they have any suggestions, or if it is a bad unit.

No, according to Fred at Livorsi they do not have a setting for Knots.

He said it is in the calibration, and could be as simple as the needle not being at zero at the start up.

I'm sending it back to them to be checked out.

Thanks for the fee back.

I am sceptial of there calibrating :( .I sent back some fuel pressure gages and had them calibrate them and sold me a new sending unit and one is still off 14 psi.

I wonder who makes them for livorsi??

My stock speedo in the dash is about 2-3 slow at 90mph compared to my Garmin GPS.My hand held was off .02 mph over the gps

My Livorsi speedo shows 5 mph faster than my handheld GPS.

I also have a Livorsi GPS Speedo and a Meridian Marine Handhelp GPS.
As I recall the accuracy on the Livorsi is +/- 3%, so at 80 mph the units can vary by a total of 5.6 mph between two Livorsi speedos. I do not know what the allowable accuracy tolerance is for the Meridian Marine handheld.

I've been clocked by two boats on Norman, and one on Lake Travis when we came out at a solid 80 MPH.

Will be trying some new props this weekend that Julie just did for me, and hopefully they will be good for a mile an hour or so.

I'll keep you posted.

That's the way it is suppose to be!

I'm starting to hear a lot of negatives about Livorsi, and a lot of good things about AutoMeter. May switch brands the next time.

I bought a Livorisi GPS speedometer from Fred (Trick) in Miami this year. I shopped at a lot of booths and several people told me that Autometer makes them for pretty much everyone. I don't know if it is true or not but, that was the word.
