i am experiancing excessive chine walking. the boat is a26'single kevlar1995 model.i've raced against "scott free" many times[same boat]never noticed him having any excessive issues.anybody have some ideas?thanks george eisenhart grumpyg

what kind of prop are you running, maybe try one with less stern lift .

Also When You Are Driving You Should Counter Steer The Boat If I Am Saying It Wright You Are Riding On A Pad Like Me .

Mine would get down right scary when I used a 26' Bravo 1.
Night and Day when I switched to a 24' Bravo 1.

there 32 had MOJOR issuewith cime walking only curn was tab down and drive tucked in and even the to was still bad just a little better,Ive never seen any problems with the 26 though ( used to work for the local dealer)

thanks guys lots of ideas for me to try,keep them coming. george eisenhart [email protected] to my frend with the carrera[ Pappa Dukes] a 24' carrera is giving us a good go every time we race them,don't give them any good ideas.

Welcome to the world of Steve Stepp. Pad too small, reversed chine to add to the mix,tall boat, poor center of balance, they all do it. The 26'/280 is actually one of the better offerings, but still prone to this trait. Hydraulic steering with a larger CC helm, for quicker response, and big tabs will help to drive thru the chine walking. But it is inherent in the hull design and you will never get rid of it, only learn to compensate for it. Owned them, sold them, moved on. Wonder where the saying "Excitement Comes Standard" comes from ? Good Luck!

The right/wrong prop can make a world of difference.

I had very serious walk starting at the low-mid 60's. It was scary! I talked to Throttle Up. Sent them my prop along with all requested engine & hull info. TU labbed/tweaked the prop. I gained a couple of MPH, and the chine walk is gone...completely.

I know, 23 Wellcraft Nova and Velocity are two different boats. Does not matter. Throttle Up does prop work on all kinds of boats, including race boats.

Yup, my boat chine walked with a Mirage Plus. I switched to a Bravo 1 and the chine walk almost completly dissapeared.

I have a 1995 26'/280. I don't know what kind of power you have or at what speeds you are chine walking. I run a 25" Hydromotive Q-IV with ZERO chine walk at any speed. That being said, I top out at 70mph, so if your walking is above that speed I can't help.

I also have a 1995 26'/280, did some prop testing on Saturday and found some definite differences in the way the boat handles depending on which prop you use. I tested a labbed 28 bravo one, a labbed 30 bravo one and a 27 Hydromotive. Both bravo's handled pretty similar but the hydromotive was a totally different animal, it was so loose and chine walked like crazy. Best speed was 78mph on GPS with the 28 B1. I would suggest trying other props depending on what power you have and speeds you are currently running. Hope this helps.

Pad bottom boats don't like a lot of trim.

We over trimed the first 30 Outlaw and it did it bad. Dropped the drives and the speed picked up and it run super.

I would play with the trim and the props.

On my 26' Thoroughbred (Velocity) I never had an issue with chine walk. When I ran a Hydromotive, it'd walk a little. Just drove through it. When I switch to B1, no chine walk EVER. One of the best hulls I've ever driven...

I have a 2005 Velocity 260. First time I drove it I kept falling off the pad in the mid 70's which would then go into a chine walk. I just didn't know how to drive it. It just takes some seat time to learn how to drive it and keep it on the pad. Took some concentration at first, but have it down now. The boat is much easier to drive in rough water than calm. For good practice go out in 2 ft chop, head into the wind ,and run her hard. You won't believe how smooth it will run. Like the others said the prop you run has everything to do with handling. I also am running a Bravo 1 28P prop that I'm still dialing in. I haven't tried a Hydomotive prop yet but want to, as I've heard they run a little faster.

I have a 26' 280 that is procharged and I run in the 90 to 95 mph area. Props make a differance. With a hdromotive and stock at 70 mph it was a test you can steer out of it, Now with my current application Bravo 4 blades depending on gear ratio I have run from 28 to 32 labbed props and it runs straight as an arrow. I do not have tabs or need them. The labed prop with less lift seems to be the cure.
