product Recipe directly from 3M for gelcoat maintenance

I returned recently from a meeting with 3M and althought the meeting discussions were interesting, the topics of discussion at dinner are always more interesting. :D

we talked about boat care products over dinner and here is an email summarizing their product "recipe"
they are particulary excited about their new marine wax, and have had very good response from glass repair facilities, detailers, etc........

Rob

It was great meeting you this week. I enjoyed our time together on Tuesday and hope you and your team found the exchange as fruitful as we did. We look forward to working with you.

Here is the information I promised I would send you on the products to help you in maintaining your boat. Our recommended steps for removing the haze / oxidation from gel coat is as follows:

Process Steps
1). Imperial Compound 06044 applied with our 5719 Buff Pad. As we discussed, run the buffer at 1000 rpm for this step rather than wide open and let the compound do the work. The mineral in this compound continues to fracture and get smaller as you buff. If you have no swirl marks in the gel coat (especially the black) you can go right to the wax

2). If you have some swirl marks in the gel, you can use the Pefect-it 3000 swirl mark remover with Perfect-it it Black foam (waffle) polishing pad 05725 as the next step.

3). When done with the above, apply our new Scotchgard Marine Liquid Wax

The haze that develops on your black gel is oxidation which should be drastically reduced with this durable new wax.
