Crack in trs lower

the crack is on the lower side of the drive. Perpendicular to the spanner nut. What causes this? I am guessing that the lower is pretty much N/G. What could of happened if i never saw it?

thanks

More then likely corrosion, or the drive was left trimmed up and water froze in it. I have had luck welding mine up when it did that from corrosion. If you keep using it eventually the drive will blow and a lot of expensive parts will sink to the bottom along with your prop more then likely. I eventually purchased a new case.

most likely from corrosion around the retaining ring and prop shaft carrier

A good welder can probably fix that. With the price of these things nowadays its worth looking into.

Mine was heavily damaged by corrosion.

I fixed it by welding a ring over the complete spanner nut area.

No problems with shaft alignments, if welder works carefully.

Ring thickness was 0,2 inch and should be ground down a little bit (after welding) in order to reduce the increased drag.
