Help.brokern lifters
1 Attachment(s)
While tracing oil leak and deciding to replace gasket found lifter parts in oil pan, what would cause a lifter to break. These mechanical lifters do not have a continuous cylinder shape, instead they have a tab or 25% (black section) of the cylinder with a crossbar connection the two lifters together (both lifters on #8) they broke at the base of the black section, engine was still running fine. Engine has less than 1.5 hours on it, Any help would be appreciated

Re: Help.brokern lifters
Any chance of a close up picture of the broken ones with no red lines through them ? Sometimes a pic will provide a clue. One thing I can think of is if the lifter bores were not checked carefully and deburred, and if the lifters for some reason had a burr or machining "lip" at that point ... they may have broken during installation ? Just speculating without a picture of the actual broken part.
Does anything seem to be in a mechanical bind of any sort, especially at full lift ? Thinking out loud :) Bill Koustenis Advanced Automotive Machine Waldorf Md |
