we went to local marina and rented the crane for lifting boats out of the water . 65.00 per hour .. took us .36 hours to lift the motors out .. 29.00 ... I gave the crane operator 20.00 bucks ... :D .. we had a flat utility trailer to load the motors on ......

For me,
the easy way was to go over to a place near me that works on big trucks. They had an overhead crane. I went over and asked the guy if he would work with me, he said yes.I loosened everything up except 2 bolts in the motor mounts, 2 top bolts in the bell housing and fron of the transmission. Took the manifolds off and front stuff off the engine. Cleared all the wires and hoses. Wen't over to the crane guy's with my 16' flat trailer, left it then went and got the boat and came back. After backing in under the lift it took 15 minutes to pull it and set it on my trailer. $30 cash.

It's funny I was just thinking of the same thing. I thought about the 4x4's through the trusses in my garage, but I'd hate to tear it up. Just before I opened this thread, I was thinking about finding an old swing set, then putting some iron pipe through the cross pipe for strengthening. My neighbor has an endloader, but he usually leaves it on the jobsites. If he ever has it at home, he always checks with me before he takes it back to the jobsite. :)

Just call me,after my third time removing both engines this season. I will pay anyone to let me remove their engines anytime anywhere. :D Here are some pics.

After the town cut down the tree in front of my house, I went to HomeDepot, and bought 2- 4x4x12's, 2-2x6x10's, 2-2x6x8's, some 2x4's, and some carriage bolts. It took me a few hours to bolt together a 12' gantry. I hung a 1 ton Harbor Freight chainfall on the top, and it worked like a charm. When I was done, I took it apart, and put it all away in the shed for another day (not too soon hopefully!). The whole thing (minus chainfall), cost me under 100 bucks, and I don't have to rely on anyone.

the harbor freight gantry looks nice. however its not wide enough for most boats.

Mounted engine hoist in the bed of my F250 then used 5000 lb tie downs. Did the job with plenty of clearance.
