T-Bolt IV Timing
 

I have a T-Bolt IV ignition with a V6-14 module on a 454 +.030 and I'm having trouble with the timing. I set the timing 32 degrees @ 2000. It idles fine and seems to rev ok. The problem is after everything is set and shut off, when I go to start the engine the starter bucks. I broke a starter bolt when this happen. Is the V6 module bad causing the timing to jump?

When you install a V-6 14 module on an 8 cyl, it does not advance 14 degrees, you only get 8-10 degrees of advance.
So if you set max timing of 32 degrees, you've got 22-24 degrees of initial timing and probably too much for your application.

OH YES IT DOES! depending on the module. To be on the safe side; lock your final advance in at 3500 RPM+. And you would be looking for no more than 32* - 34 * if you are running pump gas. Otherwise; Can you spell "KABOOM"?!? --- Jer

The V6 module thinks it's on a 6 cylinder, so you only get about 10 degrees of advance. 22 may be too much initial for starting.
Also, the V6 curve has maximal advance at 2500rpm on the V6. That will be slightly earlier on the V8, about 2200 rpm.
