Winterize motors with Silent Choice

Greetings...

I have 1997 Mercury HP525SC motors witch came with CMI headers and Silent Choice.

Running the motors to fill with anti-freeze is messy at best. I can catch the anti-freeze from the thru-transom exhaust but not the flow from the Silent Choice.

If I catch the anti-freeze by disconnectting the water lines to the headers will heat from idling the motors damage the headers, fiberglass...?

Is there a better way?

Joel

if you don't have water going to the headers they'll get hot, fast. They'll start to burn up the rubber couplings too.

When i winterize, i don't run the engine. I pull off the hose coming from the water pump, stick a funnel in it, and pour in antifreeze until it comes out the water pickup. That covers the water pump, oil and power steering coolers, and outdrive. Then i drain all the water from the engine and exhaust manifolds, and remove the thermostat housing. I pour a small amount of antifreeze into the thermostat housing and into the hoses for the exhaust manifolds and let it drain out into the bilge, then i close the drain ports and pour antifreeze in everything until it's full. Then let it sit for a few minutes and top it off again before putting it all back together.
