panavac crankcase venting

Trying to find info or pics on building a panavac system for my jetboat.

Re: panavac crankcase venting

I have run them on several jetboats and have it on my 28 Stryker.

If you are drag racing with dry headers it works well. However I have found that it can cause moisture build up in the motor with wet headers.

Instead of running one for each bank, I run one on one bank and route the hose for the other bank to the base of the air cleaner with no panavac valve on that side.

This ensures that clean air is being pulled from the air cleaner and through the motor carrying away any moisture.

There is probably little advantage to this except that hot air from the engine is not going into the intake as it does with normal marine crankcase ventilation.

You might find some picks on www.hotboat.com there some jet boat stuff there.

Becarefull if ya run the vent to the airfilter[flamearestor] if the motor has any blowby with oil vapors in it ..the oil in the blowby going in the intake charge could cause detination

Here is a kit for this http://www.cpperformance.com/detail.aspx?ID=3547

i have had the best luck with two hoses in the downward angle to a puke tank out of the valve covers..........#10 hoses seems to keep all the moisture out of the upper half of the motor, just dont be a dumbass and forget to crack the pet cock after a long run.............

what kind of fitting is that in the valve cover????

I found some that have the valve built in to the part that bolts on the valve cover in a nice billet piece, cant the brand right now, used these on a jetboat I helped a friend rig.

Strip, that is not likely to happen with this setup as the exhaust creates a powerful suction even at idle. The hot air goes straight into the exhaust.

Found it, this is the best looking and working pan-e-vac system I have used. The only problem I had was a little seepage around the gasket. Next one I do I will either weld the base to the valve covers as the top can still be unscrewed for servicing or tap the cover for this thread size.

From their website http://shogunindustries.com

"It seems that racers and those in the high performance market have suffered for years with oil leaks around the valve cover breather assembly. This is a condition which is now amplified, when using any sort of muffler system. It appears that the use of mufflers are decreasing the amount of suction pulled through the evacuation tube in the headers. The results are additional crank case pressure, causing an increase in oil leaks around the grommets and in extreme cases can cause the breather assembly to blow out and onto the track.

I guess we're not the only ones concerned with safety. One of the major sanctioning organizations in our sport have banned the use of "Push-in valve cover breathers". In doing so they have minimized and/or completely eliminated oily track surfaces due to leakage from sportsman vehicles.

In addition to this potential safety hazard, the appearance of either large amounts of Duct Tape and or sheet metal brackets, says it was time for a FIX.

Our new patented breather assembly, comes complete with re-buildable breather housings and special AN hose fittings. The system is unique in a number of ways, it is constructed of billet aluminum with an integral threaded fitting, seal and nut, to replace the rubber grommets. The breather is manufactured as a two piece assembly, that not only has a replaceable filter element but contains its own check valve. This internal check valve eliminates the one normally located at the header assembly. By making this check valve part of the breather assembly, you eliminate the chance for contamination and freeze-up as with with the existing valve, because it's now located up in the valve cover, where it's self lubricated and away from the heat and moisture.

It fits all valve covers with a 1-1/4" hole. The system includes separate AN fittings for adapting to the header evacuation tube."

These already have the an fittings :D

Re: panavac crankcase venting

i ended up using a couple of aero quip fittings to get myself to a #10 hose i welded all of them together............
the best thing to due if i did it again would be to weld a 1 in pipe at whatever height to the valve cover, 3in tall or so then weld a 3/4 npt to a # 10 fitting then just plumbed it to a puke tank they come with 3/4 fittings on them............

strip i can take close up pics if it will help ya let me know
