Volvo 5.7 Gi DP upgrade options?

I'm looknig at a bow rider for the family that has a Volvo 5.7 Gi DuoProp (260hp) for power. The hull is good, 23 1/2' 22deg deadrise, and weighs 3900.

Like the hull, not too thrilled about the power.

Talking to the current owner, he states that it runs WOT at high 40's, or maybe 50 on a good day with just him and light fuel load. He states that this boat gets out of the hole very good though. He says he's had 4 people in the boat, and pulled 4 skiers out of the water at the same time (maybe they were all little kids?) :)

If I bought it, I might be OK with it like that for a year or so, but I'd like to hit 60 anyway.

What would be my options here? Repower with 454? Rebuild with a 383? Does the '93-'94 Volvo DP (not dps) have a HP limit or would I be better off swapping to a DPS or DPX?

Or should I just run away from this one and keep looking.

My gut feeling is that building a 383 and keeping the existing drive is probably the best way to go, but looking for other input. Can anyone tell what model of DP that is in the picture?

The Dpx is better for perf. from Volvo. As far as upgrades... You will find very little.. For a do it yourselfer exhaust systems & flame arrestor are about it... We can supercharge some models but they must be done by us in house, as there are no "off the shelf kits"... Hope this helps... :) Jamie / Lakeside

I'm in the same boat...no pun intended. Twin 350 cu in engines in a 30' boat. The drive in the picture appears t be the model 270, but not sure. I'm thinking about some head work, better exhaust, and possibly a different cam. Think I could get up to around 325 hp without too much trouble and the drive from what I've heard will handle it, assuming its driven with some degree of common sense.
