help with drive service

Hope someone can help me with this dumb question.. I just installed full hydraulic steering on my boat and obviously when i took the drive cover off to put the new one with the wing plate i lost some oil. What is the best way to refill the drive? can I just refill the drive fluid resevoir or another manner? it's a 2001 model year bravo one,

Thanks

Re: help with drive service

The right way to remove the rear cover is to drain some oil from the drive by removing the fill/drain plug on front of the prop. That way you can refill safely without any concerns of creating air pockets. I would suggest you pull the prop, drain all the fluid and refill with fresh fluid. This is done by pumping fluid in through the drain /fill plug in front of the prop. Keep pumping it in until it just starts to appear in your gear oil monitor. Then slowly keep pumping until the fluid reaches desired level in the bottle.

Checkmate
Thank you for your response, That leads me to one last question. The gear oil monitor I believe is the plug on the SB side of the drive, is that correct?

No, the gear lube monitor is the bottle that is mounted on the engine.
