How Are These Heads ???

I found these on Ebay. They look like no name brand. Are they any good.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BIG-B...QQcmdZViewItem

I blew a head gasket and ruined a head . They were stock Merc. magnum heads with inconel valves. The valves have less than 50 Hrs on them. I want to buy a bear head and re use the valves.

I dont know enough about heads to know what to look for. They are going on a 468 ci, with 8.9 : 1 pistons. and a 177 blower with a intercoller .

Any help is appreciated

Thanks

Pro Topline makes excellent heads. Very good price for them.
You have to make sure the valves and guides are the same size as yours.

"no name" brand would make me a little nervous. If it were me I'd call the seller and ask who the manufacturer is. And get some details, so these guys here can offer advice. Good luck!!

Re: How Are These Heads ???

If they are Pro-Comp (many times advertised to sound like Pro-Toplines) stay away. Chinese copycat's that are sold thru E-Bay. Liberty and others starting to sell as 'house brands.'

Most will say they are made in Australia, but that's a lie. Why would you buy something that is being lied about by the manufacturer or distributor ?

Do any red flags pop up from the price ?

Reason why this **** is on E-Bay and not at your Pro-Shop. Okay,Pro Shop that cares. :D

Think SB is right. The casting looks different than the Toplines.

Re: How Are These Heads ???

Just be careful: The same store pushes Pro Comp Roller Rockers, Pro Comp Distributors, and Pro Comp SBC heads. Take a look at there E-Bay store.

Just the name Pro Comp is misleading - don't you see any similarities ? Pro (to look like Pro Action) and Comp (to look like Comp Cams whou bought Pro Action) and etc, etc, etc.

Then they tie in the whole mess by lying aabout made in Australia (Pro Action is from Australia) to try to seal the deal.

Yes, there stuff is ****, but even if it was top rate I would still be adamant about not buying it. Lies are lies, money going out of country, and they have no R&D department. All they do is copy, give it to Mr China Man to make, and sell to the unknowing.

People get blind when they see a killer bargain. Reason why so many companies and indivduals selling crap on E-Bay. When I say crap, I mean crap. Some others do sell regular stuff.

Re: How Are These Heads ???

There wording is VERY well done. They say
"As with the existing Pro Top Line range, accuracy and detail are at there highest" They NEVER say that they are pro topline, but it reads that way when you read the whole thing through quickly

Now, how did they get 100% feedback? Ebay gets worse every day!

1) People looking to put together a high quality HP motor do not go to E-Bay to buy new 'unknown, unmarked' heads that are $800 to $1000+ cheaper than known high quality heads.

2) E-bay places that have great feedback does not mean they don't have a lot of problems. Many sellers will force customers to provide 'good feedback' like:
"We will not perform a credit without good feedback"
"We will replace them if you give us good feedback"
"We will attempt to repair if you give us good feedback"
etc,etc,etc.

Also, do you really think people that buy these types of things ie:meaning they don't know what they are buying - really know if these caused problems or not ? Or if they really aren't who the purchaser thinks thery are ? Or if the performance isn't as great as it should ? Or the valvetrain pieces are cheap **** ? Or...............

Anyway - $$$$ blinds people. Proof in point.

Anybody read the "Click Here" link I provided above ? Does it help clarify some things ?

I would stay with a Dart or Brodix cylinder head if your looking to upgrade. If your buying new.

I wasn't replying to you - kind of going further on your E-Bay feedback comment. I was talking to general public in case they didn't know this happens.

Those heads are made in Auckland, New Zealand just around the corner from where i live. My engine guy who is the best in the country says dont buy them. Only Dart Pro 1 or better. Casting process is average and crap aluminum.
