Should I upgrade?

Should I upgrade?
I am considering upgrading from my B&M 142 Chargers to 6-71 or 8-71 mills. This is on my Big block motors producing just under 600HP right now. I will keep them single carbed with my Nickersons and will limit the HP output to not blow the outdrives. Anyone have any parts that they dont need or want to do some swapping? I will only do this if I decide to rebuild the motors this winter. If not it will be in the works for next winter. Drives are TRS with modded B/W trannies.

Griff,
can you give me a little more info on the carb requirements for the larger blowers? i have seen many running singles on 6 and 8-71 blowers. I wil not be producing mad horsepower at the moment because of my drives but want the option if I ever move the power to a different boat or go with Konrad replacements a few years down the road.

I am new to supercharging. Thats why I asked. If I was turning it at a high ratio or high RPMs I would not want singles. My Nickersons are 850CFM.

A little more info. I am running 454 blocks. Goal is around 5000 peak RPM with 4-6lbs of boost. A little research with these parameters stated that 900CFM would be the requirement.

What ci are you running with those 142's???? Those are tiny for a BB. A 174 is pretty much maxed out on a 454, although I've seen a few on 502's.
You will have fuel distribution problems with a single carb on anything bigger than a 250. I have never even seen a single carb plate for anything bigger than 250 and did not even know they made them.

They are B&M Mills. I thought they were 177 but I was told that b&M did not make a 177. I am a bit puzzled by this as i too think that that would be small for the motors.. You can buy a Weiand top for 6-71 and 8-71 with a single carb pattern for holley square bore or Dominator. Whish I knew more about supercharging, I am just starting to research it.
