15 Over Bore On Hp 500
Anybody Know Anything About A 15 Over Bore On A Hp 500.
I Talked To A Few Guy's And That Does Not Seem To Be The Norm, Any Info Would Be Great . I'm Looking At Buying A Boat That They Told Me The Motor Had A 15 Over Bore So I Was Just Doing Some Research On It Thank's For All Your Help Mike |
Re: 15 Over Bore On Hp 500
Just Talk With The Builder Of The Hp 500 And He Said They Where 60 Over 502 Bore = 515 Cubic Inch .
Sorry My Mistake Is That Still Ok ? Thank's Mike |
Re: 15 Over Bore On Hp 500
I think 60 over is about the end of the line for the engine. If you have to bore it again, I think you'd be SOL.

Re: 15 Over Bore On Hp 500
If it is a gen VI 502, which it should be, the bore can be taken to 4.600. It is at 4.530 now. Why was it bored .060 in the first place. Usually, a standard rebuild should take it .030 over. It may have broken in the past and had enough cylinder damage to require .060 to clean it up. You need to ask why it was bored so much. May not be a big deal. You still have plenty room to go in the future. Eddie

Re: 15 Over Bore On Hp 500
Mike,
For a std. Gen VI non-Bowtie block: 4.470" Std bore 4.500" Max overbore recommended by GM 4.530" With sonic check and minimal core shift 4.560" Been done with mandatory sonic test and zero core shift. Not recommended. If this influences your decision on purchasing the boat I would do so with the knowledge that, for all practical purposes, the block is at the end of its service life short of sleeving it. Bob |

Re: 15 Over Bore On Hp 500
I have one motor that's 60 over and one hole with a sleve in it.I don't see any probs with this combo on 2 summers at boost  yea it might have a little more blow by but the leak down looks close and there s only about 20 hp diff between the 30 over motor . I don't think the bore diff in 30 and 60 makes much hp diff .if it gets to bad ill replace the block and go back to 30 over..I would rather be at 30 not 60.
I would not make that a deciding factor over not buying a boat but depends on what boat and price range the boat is , I guess a new block is 1500.or used 750?.alittle labor so its not that much money on a 100k plus boat .The only thing that would concern me as to why the motor had to go over bore ,to me that means someone ran the shet out of it  or there was just a parts failure?? rob |
