How to change thermostat on 496HO?
 

To change the thermostat it looks like I have to get at and remove two bolts holding down the thermostat "retainer", cut the two straps (or are these a reusable design hold down straps) that hold the heat exchanger to the coolant manifold (for the heads), pry up the one end of the heat exchanger at the thermostat, change the thermostat, and reverse the process.

What can be used to replace the hold down straps for the heat exchanger?

Or is this a more involved troublesome process. Feel free to share your thoughts and experience as to problem areas to do this, please.

Don't forget to drain a gallon or two of coolant first!
