496 mercruiser

Does anybody got any feedback on 496 merc,s. Thinking about buying a pair but don't know much about them.Are they any good ??????? any feedback will help! Thanks JOHN

I have about 120 hours on my 496HO. So far, it's been a great engine. The closed cooling is nice. I've had two minor problems and I was able to diagnose them using scan software.

Considering that about every 7 out of 10 new performance boats that splash for their new owners every day are equipped with them, and most of them are still runnin, I'd say they are an awesome, reliable, affordable powerplant!
But what the heck we are grossly biased!!
