Re: Trailer lug torque

I have a Chawk trailer, tandem, with 6 lug alluminum wheels and my spec says 90 ft/lbs. Not sure what the stud size is, but I believe that is the determining factor...

Hope this helps..
Dick

PS.. Hi Smitty, how goes it?

It well could have been 75. It's just been a while. Thanks for the responses.

Re: Trailer lug torque

The tire dealer that I bought some new custom tires and wheels from for my 27 Daytona trailer told me," be sure that you torque each lug to 55 ft/lbs." Well, after towing about 100 miles, I came to the end of a parkway. The intersection is at busy 4 lane road. As I made a continuous right turn, I notied another driver pointing back to the left side of my rig. I quickly turned to the left and noticed my trailer wheel headed straight on into the busy intersection. My instant response was the thought that someone coming from the right is going to hit the wheel and wreck. Luckily there was a concrete berm. The wheel hit the concrete berm made a right hand turn. It rolled right in front of my truck. It continued right into a bank parking lot and fell over right in front of the ATM. I thought, "thank God." Then I had to pull into the second entrance to the bank. As I pulled in I noticed two rednecks picking up the wheel and opening up the the back of their car. I jumped out and ran over to them and grabbed my tire. They said, "I found the wheel first." Luckily I found my bearing buddy that the wheel knocked off, and hammered it back on. Walked to the autozone and got some new lugs. When I checked the others they were very loose, almost off.
Moral of the story, 90 lbs. and check them very regularly. I was thinking on the parkway, I ought to stop and check the lugs, but I didn't because we were running late.
