Boat should haul ass the way it is ....Fountain sets their boats up on the edge to begin with .............you should have a notched transom and the drive height is most likely vvery aggressive to begin with. What RPM and speed are you runiing now?
I have some shorty experience but my drive was way deep ( 7.5 ) below the keel, on a twin step Donzi. My 2 inch shorty worked well

5300rpm speeds usually around 77-78. Very rarely 80.

This isn't a 29 Fountain but my cousin has an 05 42' Fountain with 2" shorties and picked up about 6 mph. Runs like hell once it's on top of the water BUT it planes off like a race boat.
Running 5 blades and it's still murder. Run the throttles up to 4000 and sit ther , bow in the air engines revving and water flying all over in the back of the boat. A quarter mile later it begins to plane
