Re: 496 improvement options- narrowing choices down
What year are the 496s? Depending on year/serial number, Merc has a recalibration for the ECUs.
Merc replaced mine under (extended) warranty with new CPUs (new calibration programmed) last season. |

I have an 01 that merc replaced the unit on this spring and a set of CMIs. I always complained about the dirty transom and between the two of them my hiny stays shiny. :D

Re: 496 improvement options- narrowing choices down
I didn't gain any top end but I do think I have a better midrange. I said this in another thread a few days ago that I don't think in my case that they were worth it. I don't doubt that some of these guys are seeing gains as all boats are different. I would still like to add the Raylar 525 kit to my setup and then I think I would have something. I might add that I have been watching the thread about the air intakes. I have a single in a 28 Active Thunder and I think I recall reading about a 28 A.T. that had a new 525 in it and it was not getting enough air. I haven't thrown in the towel yet on these things as I might still be able to find horsepower.
