I would choose the cheapest method possible to build a time bomb.

Whipple + Pistons + rods + caps + crank and it will be a winner!!!

I wouldn't suggest putting a blower on a 1990 BB unless it was rebuilt with good internals, such. I would however probably go with the pro's dependin on the weight of the boat. A whip will pull better out of the hole and maybe the mid, with a better flatter hp-tq curve, are about 40% more effichant then a roots blower, but the pro's will make more top end power and if your doing alot of that kind of running they would make the most power.. dont forget to have them inner cooled, run cold plugs.. Good luck jmo

To be honest, if you arn't full on racing it, beating the **** out of it all the time, I would get a eagle crank, some stock shot peened rods, forged pistons, speed pro, weisco, ect, as J-E, ross ,aries are going to be a bit more, put a decent cam and get the stock heads done, have the engine balanced, and you will be good to go, unless money isn't a issue.. Then it is endless on the things you can have. Again some might disagree, but you can beat on an engine if it is balanced, done right, don't have to have the best stuff in it.. JMO

I agree, anything is better than the cast junk GM put in it. If you don't do it now you'll be doing it soon enough. Stroke it while you're in there too, it won't cost any more $.

Just go look in a jegs or summit catalog. You can pick up a nice eagle rotating assembly for 2k or so. You will be fine with that.. :)

Re: Whipple or procharger for 7.4

Without a blower, your prolly talkin 4k, With machine work, thats putting it togather yourself, with a blower tac another 4 to that at least, new heads, another 2k or so. The first thing is yah need to find out how much you have or want to spend, go from there, again if money isn't a problem just get the stuff, lol

Re: Whipple or procharger for 7.4

You shouldn't have a problem SC'ing that motor, keep the boost below 6psi, intercooled, run around 11.5:1 @ WOT, run same timing as stock, only use 91-93 octane. Motor has 8:1 compression and we've supercharged many of these in carb'd form. I actually did one on a EFI version, it's gone over 700 hours, non intercooled 7psi. Certainly not what I expected, but the low compression, low water temp, fuel through SC really makes this a save setup.

Increasing the cylinder pressure with 6lbs of boost will not hurt the rods, increased RPM's will be the worst thing you can do. In all our years, rods and crankshafts break far less than 1% of the time on stock applications.

Thanks,
Dustin
